In the Old Testament, only God has the authority to forgive sins.
Isaiah 43:25 (KJV):
“I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.”
No prophet, priest, or angel could ever say, “Your sins are forgiven,” on their own authority.
But Jesus did.

💬 Jesus Forgave Sins Directly — Not on God’s Behalf, But as God
Mark 2:5 (KJV):
“When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.”
This shocked the religious leaders.
Mark 2:7 (KJV):
“Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God only?”
They were right about one thing:
Only God can forgive sins.
What they didn’t realize was:
👉 God was standing right in front of them.
🙌 Jesus Proved His Authority with a Miracle
To show He had the divine right to forgive, Jesus backed His words with power:
Mark 2:10-11 (KJV):
“But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins…”
“I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.”
Immediately, the paralyzed man was healed.
The visible miracle confirmed the invisible forgiveness.
🕊️ Jesus Forgave a Sinful Woman — and the Crowd Was Stunned
Luke 7:48-49 (KJV):
“And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.”
“And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?”
Jesus didn’t pray on her behalf.
He spoke as the Judge Himself.
He didn’t say, “God has forgiven you.”
He said: “I forgive you.”
🧠 Why This Matters: Forgiveness Is God’s Exclusive Domain
No prophet ever dared speak like this.
Moses didn’t.
Isaiah didn’t.
John the Baptist didn’t.
But Jesus did — because He is the God who says:
“I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions…” (Isaiah 43:25)
✅ Conclusion
Jesus didn’t just perform miracles.
He did what only God can do: forgive sin directly and permanently.
✝️ He wasn’t a messenger of forgiveness.
He was — and is — the source of forgiveness.
That power belongs to God alone —
and Jesus had it because He is God.
